Our training integrates scientific agricultural principles, field-based demonstrations, and multimedia learning materials tailored to Malaysia’s climate, soil conditions, and regulatory environment. Whether you’re managing your own orchard or preparing to enter the industry, our courses offer clear, step-by-step instruction grounded in the best practices of tropical fruit farming.

With the rising global demand for Malaysian durians, cultivating durian commercially presents a high-return opportunity—but one that requires technical skill and operational discipline. From land preparation and planting methods to pest management, irrigation design, and post-harvest handling, PHG’s training programmes address every key stage in the durian production cycle.

Understanding the complexities of Malaysian Good Agricultural Practices (myGAP), managing soil fertility, and adapting to regional climate challenges are essential for consistent fruit quality and yield. Our curriculum is developed by agronomists and industry practitioners and is delivered through blended learning formats—including classroom instruction, video tutorials, and on-site field visits—to ensure relevance and real-world application.

This page outlines the training programmes, delivery formats, and progression pathway offered by PHG to build capacity among growers, estate managers, and investors. Whether you are starting from scratch or scaling operations, our programme helps you make informed decisions, avoid costly mistakes, and achieve long-term success in durian agriculture.

Courses

Harvesting Course

The Harvesting course focuses on training both permanent and seasonal workers in proper durian harvesting techniques and maintaining orchard sanitation.

Module 1: Harvesting Supervision

This module equips learners with the skills and knowledge required to effectively supervise and manage the harvesting process in commercial durian operations. It covers workforce coordination, timing protocols based on cultivar maturity, safety procedures, and yield recording practices. Emphasis is placed on minimizing post-harvest losses through organized supervision and timely interventions.

Module 2: Harvesting Practices

We Pride ourselves in great work, ethic, integrity and end-result. Our company philosophy is to create the best.

Module 3: Orchard Sanitation

Focused on improving farm hygiene and disease prevention, this module covers routine sanitation procedures, proper disposal of fallen fruit, pruning of infected branches, and pest habitat removal. Learners gain insights into how orchard cleanliness directly affects fruit quality, pest management, and long-term farm productivity.

Monitoring and Inspection for Phytosanitary Markets Course

The Monitoring and Inspection for Phytosanitary Markets for Durian course outlines key management protocols and systems required to monitor and inspect for pest insect infestations that are of concern to sensitive export markets.

Module 1: Identification of Quarantine Pests and Export Market Requirements

This module introduces participants to key pest threats associated with durian exports, focusing on insects such as mealybugs, scale insects, and fruit borers that are of quarantine concern to importing countries. It explains how different markets—particularly China and other sensitive destinations—enforce strict phytosanitary regulations and pest tolerance thresholds. Participants will gain an understanding of how pest identification, risk profiling, and compliance with specific country requirements directly impact export eligibility and trade continuity.

Module 2: Monitoring Protocols and Sampling Techniques

This module equips participants with practical knowledge on setting up and executing effective pest monitoring systems in durian orchards. It covers surveillance methods such as pheromone traps, baiting, and targeted visual inspections to detect early pest infestations. Emphasis is placed on establishing monitoring frequencies, maintaining field records, and aligning data collection with integrated pest management (IPM) practices. The goal is to ensure orchards remain within acceptable risk levels for export and to document pest control efforts for regulatory and buyer audits to support market eligibility.

Module 3: Pre-Harvest and Pre-Shipment Inspection Procedures

The final module outlines the critical steps involved in conducting phytosanitary inspections before harvest and prior to shipment of durians. It includes inspection of fruit surfaces, calyx areas, and packaging materials for pest presence, alongside protocols for cleaning bins, sorting areas, and transport vehicles. Participants will also learn about traceability systems, batch documentation, and certification processes required for phytosanitary clearance. This module ensures that all handling practices meet the export standards of target markets and reduce the risk of shipment rejection due to pest contamination, thereby maintaining market access eligibility.

Durian Propagation Course

The Durian Propagation course  aims to develop an understanding of the process and requirements for making Durian trees.

Module 1: Durian Propagation Requirements

This module introduces the fundamental conditions needed for successful durian propagation, including environmental requirements, mother tree selection, soil conditions, and nursery setup. Learners will understand the biological and technical prerequisites that influence plant health, growth rate, and propagation success.

Module 2: Durian Propagation Methods

Participants will explore the main propagation techniques used in the durian industry, such as budding, grafting, and cutting. The module focuses on step-by-step procedures, tool handling, and aftercare practices to ensure high survival rates and uniformity in planting material.

Module 3: Durian Rootstocks

This module delves into the selection and management of durian rootstocks, covering rootstock characteristics, compatibility with scions, and influences on tree vigor, disease resistance, and fruiting performance. Learners will be able to differentiate between commonly used rootstocks and their agronomic implications.

Safe Handling of Agrochemicals Course

The Safe Handling of Agrochemicals course provides essential guidance on workplace safety when dealing with agrochemicals. It covers the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and outlines best practices for the safe storage, mixing, and application of agrochemical products.

Module 1: General Safety

This module introduces the fundamental safety principles associated with the use of agrochemicals. Topics include hazard identification, risk minimization, label interpretation, and the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Emphasis is placed on creating a safe working environment and ensuring all handlers understand their responsibilities and legal obligations.

Module 2: Agrochemical Storage

Participants will learn best practices for the secure and compliant storage of agrochemicals. This includes storage facility requirements, segregation of chemicals, signage and labelling standards, and inventory control. The module highlights how proper storage reduces the risk of contamination, theft, and accidental exposure.

Module 3: Agrochemical Application Principles

This module focuses on the correct and efficient application of agrochemicals. Learners will explore mixing procedures, calibration of equipment, application timing, and recordkeeping. It also covers environmental considerations, such as drift management and buffer zones, to ensure safe and responsible use.
